ResMed Releases New High-Performance H4i™ Humidification System for S8™ Series II and Premium Bilevel Devices

ResMed announces the launch of the new H4i™ heated humidifier, the latest technology in heated humidification which integratesseamlessly with the revolutionary S8™ Series II positive airway pressure and premium bilevel devices.

ResMed's latest in airflow dynamics and heating technology ensures that the H4i heated humidifier delivers the most humidity output of any integrated device with pressure relief. The 30% higher humidity output and 60ml greater water capacity is an added advantage for patients on very high pressures, particularly with bilevel therapy.

Benefits of humidification

Humidification helps patients feel more comfortable and therefore improves compliance. Up to 40% of nasal CPAP users experience nasal congestion and dryness of the nose and throat. Research proves that the warm, moist air that humidification provides can relieve symptoms of dryness and make therapy more comfortable. In fact, compliance gains may be realized sooner if patients start with heated humidity at CPAP initiation.1-4

“We view humidification as an essential component of comfortable therapy and critical to achieving maximum patient compliance. The new H4i heated humidifier is the highest humidity output and the quietest pressure relief device available on the market, delivering 30% more humidity than earlier generation humidifiers,” stated Simon Johnson, Director of Product Management. “The H4i will set a new standard for exceptional quality, patient ease of use and superior comfort in humidification systems. The high humidity output is especially valuable for patients who previously may have faced challenges in achieving adequate humidification. Additionally, the low cost replacement chambers address the financial challenges of customers seeking reimbursement for these accessories.”

ResMed's H4i is a fully integrated humidifier, which clicks easily into place and supports ResMed's full S8 Series II platform – from entry-level CPAP/APAP to premium VPAP™ bilevel devices. The compact design is unobtrusive in the bedroom and easily packed for travel.

Featuring user-friendly dials and a convenient flip-top lid design, it is easy for patients to use and clean.

The high-volume humidification chamber has a water capacity of 390ml, allowing for optimal humidification throughout the night. It is also available with an optional cleanable water chamber which can be easily opened for cleaning by hand or in a dishwasher.

For ordering convenience, the H4i Humidification System is also offered in Resmed's ever popular “co-packaging,” which includes a CPAP/APAP or VPAP flow generator in the same shipping carton.

Thermal Pest Camera

The latest innovation in thermal imaging technology
Introducing the BugEye Thermal Pest Camera. The latest technology in termite and pest detection. The BugEye Thermal Camera utilizes a high resolution monitor to display temperature differences down to 0.05°C allowing the operator to see both warm and cool areas in wall and ceiling cavities caused by termite infestation. Due to the highly sensitive resolution of the unit, active termite leads in hidden cavities are also visible in ideal conditions. A unique capability of the unit is the optional wireless transmitter module for viewing images on a remote screen or documenting inspections on a notebook PC or VCR.

The following images were taken in residential properties and demonstrate the effectiveness of the BugEye Thermal camera in detecting nesting inside wall and ceiling cavities. Note that an active nest will appear brighter than the surrounding wall due to the heat generated by the termites. Inactive nests will generally appear darker due to the cold 'sink' nature of the mud pack.

Note that conditions such as direct sunshine or cold rain on exterior wall surfaces will have a noticeable effect on what the thermal camera can detect on these walls from inside the building. These effects should be taken into account during the inspection process where ever possible and exterior walls should be inspected at times when these situations can be avoided.
We conduct inspections should you be considering purchasing a property or would like to know whether your existing home has a termite or borer problem.

Inspections are conducted to Australian Standards AS 4349.3

On average an inspection can take two to three hours to complete.
A comprehensive report is issued on completion.

You should note we can only inspect those areas with reasonable access.

Dell Adamo XPS finally available

Dell sets the computing industry abuzz with the introduction of its Adamo brand, and along with it the world’s thinnest laptop PC. Today, the world meets a new champion of thin: The Dell™ Adamo XPS™, measuring 9.99mm or just four-tenths of an inch. Both laptops set new standards for craftsmanship, design and engineering excellence.

Adamo XPS is a stunning laptop whose design provides a unique experience. With the swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open. The feature set challenged engineers to build the latest technology into a compact space, including:

· 4GB DDR3 800 memory;

· Intel Core 2 Duo (1.4Ghz) ultra-low voltage processor;

· Thin 128GB SSD for faster, cooler, quieter and more durable storage than traditional hard drives;

· A 13.4-inch high-definition display.

The attention to detail is apparent in the black, jewelry box-like packaging that is as striking as the laptop itself. A tug on a cloth loop reveals the Adamo XPS and assorted accessories that accompany the system. The Adamo XPS was recently recognized as the hottest Windows 7 product by leading technology analyst Rob Enderle with Digital Trends.

Adamo, derived from the Latin word meaning “to fall in love,” is a flagship in a line of products created to disrupt the personal computing space with the combination of new design aesthetics, personalization choices and sought-after technologies.

The Adamo by Dell brand was launched last March with the first Adamo laptop, which combined high-performance technologies in a finely-machined aluminum case only .65-inch thick.

The pencil-thin Adamo XPS weighs just over 3 pounds and measures 13.39 x 10.71 inches. Dell expects to begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS with Microsoft® Windows® 7 pre-installed in time for the holidays. The Adamo XPS is priced starting at $1799.

Sony's XEL-1 OLED TV finally coming to Australia next month

Sony's XEL-1, widely known as the first consumer-level OLED TV to hit the market, has done a pretty decent job of traversing the globe. For reasons unknown, however, it has yet to touch down in the great nation of Australia. Thankfully for deep-pocketed Aussies who passed up on the Kevin37 deal, all that changes next month. CNET is reporting that Sony will launch its 11-inch wonder Down Under in "mid-April," with pricing expected to be anywhere from AU$6,000 ($4,209) to AU$8,000 ($5,612). Call us looney, but we get the idea that most mates will be passing this opportunity up without thinking twice. We mean, do you have any idea how much, um, stuff that kind of dough buys in Nimbin?

Hyundai Genesis Sedan and Coupe Storm SEMA

The hyundai Genesis Coupe, out now, and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe that will drop in the spring of 2009, is proof in pudding of Korean automaker rise to creating real, serious performance machines. The Genesis sedan and coupe are the culmination of a trend at Hyundai toward quality and driver engagement, without giving up the high value that has catapulted the brand from bottom-of-the-barrel economy to high on many prospective car buyers' lists.

To be taken seriously among the performance tuning community, Hyundai has touted the performance potential of the rear wheel drive Genesis Sedan and Genesis Coupe by commissioning several of the world's top tuning houses to upgrade the already more-than-adequate Genesis performance and styling to a new level.

The natural venue to showcase what can be done with this exciting brand new platform is the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show that hits Las Vegas each fall. Genesis Sedan tuners DUB, RIDES Magazine and RKSPORT showcased the luxury sport sedan's urban image, with tuning packages comparing it to say, the tuned Chrysler 300C or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The Genesis Coupe is a very different animal, though they are based on the same platform. HKS, Street Concepts and Rhys Millen Racing were chosen as most appropriate to bring out the best custom car potential in Hyundai's exciting new pony car competitor. Particularly noteworthy is the Rhys Millen Racing Genesis Coupe, which has been outfitted with a full autocross-ready track package, demonstrating just how much performance the new 2.0 Turbo from Hyundai is good for.

After the Tiburon has hung on always just outside of the sport compact tuning limelight, will Hyundai finally hit mainstream in the performance tuning world with the Genesis Sedan and Coupe? Both very different cars have the goods to deliver, and it is now up to the market as to just how far Hyundai has come.

Official Hyundai of America Press Release with specific model details follows...

Tycrid Platform Technologies Inc.
The announced on January 7, 2008 (at CES) that they have released the world's most power personal workstation. This workstation, known as Titan, utilizes the latest technology in stream processing from NVIDIA to achieve a maximum performance capacity of up to 3 teraflops.

We spoke with Chris Heier, president of Tycrid, while at the Sands Expo and Convention Center during the second day of CES. GPU computing is something we were not familiar with, but as Chris explained, the key behind GPU computing is utilizing the stream processors on NVIDIA graphics cards. These stream processors can provide anywhere from 10x to 100x speedups in your algorithms over conventional CPU cores. According to Tycrid, a single Titan workstation can replace over 50 dual quad-core workstations.

The core of Titan's processing capabilities lies in the NVIDIA Tesla GPU, each capable of up to 518 gigaflops. The ability to utilize Tesla lies in the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) toolkit, developed by NVIDIA.

“When designing our workstation, Titan, we chose to look at options that both achieve the best performance on the market today, but also make sure that it is ready for anybody to use with Windows or Linux. The system not only gives you world class performance for specialized applications, but also gives you the full support of using these operating systems with all of your applications,” said Heier.
Tycrid has teamed up with one of the leading cooling experts,CoolIT Systems, to design an efficient thermal and acoustics management system for Titan. The Titan prototype on hand at CES was using two of CoolIT's Dual Drive Bay VGA Coolers to keep the six NVIDIA 8800 GTS cards nice and chilly.

The workstation was designed from the ground up to be both a personal computer, capable of web, email and productivity applications, as well as a supercomputer, capable of doing compute intensive applications, like molecular modeling.

The basic configuration of Titan is available for pre-order, starting at $24,995.

Built by 150 trainees, the car combines traditional design features with the latest technology.

So while it has large spoked wheels that hark back to the first Benz Motor Car of 1886, it is powered by a hybrid drive system using an emission-free fuel cell.

It can reach a top speed of 15.5miles an hour and has a range of 220miles.

The students from Daimler AG have worked on the overall concept, development, assembly, and completion of the F-CELL Roadster for a year. The project was created to train the junior employees in alternative drive systems. The car has a top speed of 15.5miles an hour

They included carbon-fiber bucket seats with hand-stitched leather covers and a distinctively styled fiberglass front section, inspired by Formula One racing cars.

The roadster is controlled with drive-by-wire technology, and a joystick takes the place of a conventional steering wheel.

'I am delighted to see how much initiative and creativity the young people have put into this project,' Labor Relations Manager Günther Fleig said.

The Mercedes-Benz F-CELL Roadster has similar spoked wheels to the first Benz Motor Car.

Mitsubishi HC5000BL projector

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics Presentation Products Division, known for award-winning, high-quality presentation and display products, today introduced its 1080p home theater projector, the HC5000BL. Based on the latest LCD technology and High Quality Video (HQV) high-performance video processor from Silicon Optix, Mitsubishi's HC5000BL offers true 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution for the highest definition of detail and action, and performs seamlessly with the latest Blu-ray or HD DVD technology. "Our new HC5000BL brings the best of the best to our customers," said Frank Anzures, product manager, Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America's Presentation Products Division.Mitsubishi projector HC5000BL
"We have the latest technology, the latest features, and the highest quality performance available today." The HC5000BL is designed with new inorganic LCD panels that are more durable and provide a more color-consistent, even-toned image than previous generation LCD panels. The LCD optical engine is enclosed to prevent dust from entering the engine, which decreases the number of particles landing on the LCD panels, and keeps the image cleaner. Mitsubishi's HC5000BL delivers HQV through Silicon Optix's Reon-VX chip, which provides true HQV four-field, motion-adaptive, per-pixel, high-definition (HD) deinterlacing that delivers the sharpest and most detailed HD images possible. The HQV multi-direction diagonal filter removes any "jaggies" and/or stair-step artifacts from deinterlaced video sources without blurring the image, while sophisticated noise reduction technology removes the noise and artifacts caused by compression. Mitsubishi projector HC5000BL - Details
Using Mitsubishi's exclusive algorithms to control its dynamic iris, the HC5000BL also boasts one of the highest contrast ratios available today, achieving an unprecedented 10,000:1 for the most exacting features in dark areas of an image. These new algorithms detect and maximize color information as well as luminance, creating realistic detail in film noir and action flicks. With up to 5000 hours of lamp-life (in low mode), HC5000BL owners won't have to change them often, but when it's necessary, the new projector offers a design that makes replacement quick and easy. Through an easily accessed lamp housing, users simply switch the lamps without taking the mounting structure apart and physically handling the projector.

Latest technology for cameras

Latest technology for cameras

Now for the latest technology in a camera - not a telephone. Information extracted from "What Digital Camera" Some of this won't mean much to some, but will to others and the more you read the more you get to know what's going on and the defiencies of previous models which the new technology seeks to overcome.
Nikon D2Xs, the new features are many – 20 improvements in all. Tthe viewfinder has been improved. It may still offer the same 100% viewing of the scene and the 0.86% magnification, but the screen is brighter, says Nikon, thanks to the new Brite-View Clear Matte Mark III viewing screen. And the screen is available as both a clear option or gridded, for compositional aid. Better still, Nikon has improved the viewfinder’s functionality in the high-speed crop mode. Both this camera and the previous model use just 6.7 megapixels in high-speed mode to pass the 8fps images through the buffer. This smaller image size meant that, for accurate composition, a separate viewfinder screen had to be used, with lines showing the image edges. Now, the D2Xs shades the extraneous area in the viewfinder, making it much easier to switch between image sizes and continuous shooting speeds. Furthermore, the Colour Matrix Metering has been improved to allow for the smaller image format, instead of metering from the full area. Another obvious addition is the 2.5inch LCD. This isn’t larger than the previous version, but offers a wider viewing angle both horizontally and vertically of 170° – the same as the D200 and new D80.Regular users of the Nikon D2X may notice an improvement in the camera AF speed in the new model, with improved tracking in continuous AF mode and better subject finding, thanks to the Multi-CAM2000 AF module. Another major improvement is the inclusion of Adobe RGB in all three-colour modes; previously this was limited and sRGB was the predominant colour space. Nikon has also added more custom curves and custom-function options as well as an in-camera crop feature to the D2Xs. Similarly there is now a black-and-white option, which is available as a NEF and JPEG file, so you can also return the colour using the NEF file if the image isn’t working for you. Nikon also claims to have lengthened the battery life, and the D2Xs can now shoot up to 3,800 images on a single charge. An improved battery gauge shows the number of shots taken since the last charge, the percentage of power left and overall battery status. Finally, there have been improvements to the image data, with better EXIF data, additional GPS information (if used with a GPS system), and the system is now Image Authentication-compatible. Incidentally, the D2Xs uses a new NEF format, so RAW files need to be converted via the new Nikon NX software .

Mercedes-Benz F500 Concept Car 2003

The F 500 Mind showcases the very latest technology
At the Tokyo Motor Show 2003, Mercedes-Benz presented the latest in a string of research vehicles which have attracted much interest and attention over the years and which provide fascinating insights into the automotive technology of tomorrow and beyond. Packaged as a modern four-door fastback saloon, the F 500 Mind mobile research lab showcases more than a dozen ideas for enhancing the safety, drive technology and comfort of future Mercedes passenger cars.

The DaimlerChrysler researchers will be using this vehicle to conduct the first practical tests of these innovative systems and pave the way for their commercialisation. The raft of innovations extends all the way from the night vision system with infrared laser headlamps to two-way doors and a programmable multivision display in the cockpit. Electronic accelerator and brake pedals, an interior pillar which provides structural rigidity and an ultrasound driver information system are further features being tested by Mercedes-Benz in the F 500 Mind.

For the powertrain, the DaimlerChrysler researchers have developed a high-performance diesel hybrid unit whose NEDC fuel consumption is up to 20 per cent lower than that of a comparable CDI engine. The state-of-the-art V8 diesel engine (184 kW/250 hp) from the S-Class has been combined with a powerful electric motor (50 kW) which is switched on and off by an electronic controller in response to traffic conditions and driving style. The electric motor can take over for example when moving off from rest, in stop-go conditions or in other situations where an internal combustion engine does not operate at optimal efficiency. When the driver demands more power, the V8 internal combustion engine cuts in to provide sharp acceleration. The 300 V battery for the electric motor is located under the passenger cell and is recharged during braking. With a body length of 5092 millimetres and a wheelbase of 2965 mm, the F 500 Mind offers a significant gain in legroom in the rear compared with a conventional present-day saloon in this class. This was made possible by using innovative-design electronic accelerator and brake pedals which take the form of pressure-sensitive surfaces. Sensors in these “pedals” transmit the driver’s commands to the engine and SBCô brake system by means of electrical impulses. The technology takes up much less room than conventional mechanical pedals, increasing the length of the front footwell by 120 millimetres. The driver’s and front passenger’s seats can therefore be positioned further forward, so providing more space for the rear passengers. The steering, too, is controlled electronically.Intelligent door-opening technology allows the doors to be opened in two different ways: either conventionally (both doors open forwards) or from the centre (centre-opening). In the latter mode, the B-pillar stump moves backwards with the rear door to provide a 1900 mm-wide opening for occupant entry and exit.

In the absence of full-size B-pillars, which would normally provide the all-important structural rigidity and side impact protection, the Stuttgart engineers came up with an innovative interior pillar which provides exemplary rigidity and typical Mercedes standards of occupant safety. The pillar is located in the middle of the vehicle towards the rear, and connects the reinforced floor pan to the roof structure. It also houses the air-conditioning ducts and interior lighting units.

The multivision display in the cockpit of the F 500 Mind forms the centrepiece of an innovative instrumentation and control system which offers the driver more flexible information delivery and at the same time reduces fatigue. The dials and displays in the instrument cluster are programmable and their images can be optically superposed or combined with the aid of a semitransparent mirror. In this way the driver can call up a wide range of information at the push of a button on the steering wheel. The information is always displayed directly in the driver’s field of vision where it can be seen easily and will not distract him. A further display, the central display unit, is situated above the centre console. It is linked to a touchpad whose surface is divided up in exactly the same way as the surface of the central display. By briefly touching it, the driver can control the navigation system, radio, air conditioning, telephone and other systems.

Sony Expo Showcases Latest Tech

The annual Sony Hawaii Expo was held this week at the Ala Moana Hotel Hibiscus Ballroom. Highlight of this year’s Sony Expo was the desktop Sony OLED flatscreen TV (shown above). The hallmark of this high tech wonder is its small size and crystal clear high definition picture. The screen itself is thinner than a compact disc jewel case.

Another hyped product at the Sony Hawaii Expo is the new Sony Rolly MP3 player. It is a new portable device that is shaped like a little barrel and moves to the beat of the music. The speakers on this device are positioned at both ends and open up with winglike flaps on each end. The device will not be marketed in the U.S. and is aimed only at consumers in Japan. If it were sold in the U.S. the price would be at around $400.

Face recognition “smile” technology for Sony Cybershot cameras were also a new this year. The new Cybershots can sense when a person smiles and fires only at that time. People were happily smiling for the demo at the Sony Cybershot booth. There were many other Cybershot digital still and video cameras that were also on display for consumers to play with.

I was most interested in the small super zoom, SLR-like cameras that I may want to get in an effort to find a capable SLR-like digital camera without all of the weight and bulk.

Last year’s hot product, the Sony Playstation 3 was almost like a has-been this year. Yes, there were displays of the venerable Playstation 3 for people to use, but the crowds around those stations were not very big. Sony is still marketing the Playstation 2 which is still the most popular game console of all time, despite Nintendo running away with the market lead on their new generation Wii product.

I am still interested in perhaps getting a Sony PSP, mainly for the fact that it can surf the web with its wireless internet feature. Another wifi device that was touted last year, the Sony Mylo, was nowhere to be seen this year. Sony still sells the device.

HDTV are the big products Sony is pushing this year as the Expo was dominated by flatscreen high definition sets all over the place. Going hand in hand with that were several Sony Blu-Ray HDTV DVD players. the pictures on the sets and from the players are incredibly clear.

Don’t know if I am ready to sink money in either of these technologies, especially Blu-Ray since it is locked in a format war with the rival HD-DVD. Beta vs. VHS all over again. I’ll wait for the dust to settle on this one.

Overall the Sony Expo was a great little venue to check the latest technology from one of the most popular electronic companies on the face of the earth.

Lia Timson rounds up the coolest gadgets at the latest technology trade show.

Tech heads and early adopters must have had a field day at CeBIT, Australia's largest technology trade show. It wrapped up this week, clearing the way for the latest hardware and software to be embraced by consumers and businesses. Some of the gear is already available, other devices will arrive later this year. Much of it capitalises on the trend toward mobile work.

Among the stars of the show was the ultra-mobile personal computer (UMPC) - between a tablet PC and a personal digital assistant (PDA) - with full PC capabilities at half of the price of a tablet. The new $1650 EO from TabletKiosk is 50 per cent bigger than the average PDA, runs Windows XP and ditches Pocket PC applications in favour of full Windows software versions.

It's handier and lighter than a tablet or laptop and more useful than a PDA, primarily because of its 17cm touch screen. The UMPC will come with hard drives from 30GB to 160GB, and with memory up to 1GB. It is Wi-Fi and internet enabled, but does not have a mobile phone, although we are told one can be connected via Bluetooth.

Hugo Ortega, the principal of Tegatech Australia, distributors of the EO, says demand has already outstripped initial estimates, with 250 units sold in the first two hours of orders opening. It arrives in June.

"From what we've seen, there is demand for digital ink to take notes on the screen and have it transcribed to Word or other [program]," Ortega says. He says it will finally do away with paper notebooks carried around by students and note-taking professionals.

Samsung and Asus also have ultra-mobile PCs on the way soon.

Still on the portable stakes, a new credit card-size USB flash drive has arrived.

The compact Wallet Flash a double-sided USB port that sticks out and is small enough to fit snugly with other cards in your wallet.

Gilad Grinbaum, the director of G-Innovations, distributors of the Israeli-developed device, says it is waterproof, and starts from $30 for 128MB of storage.

If you're a mobile worker in tough and secret conditions, Panasonic's Toughbook CF-51 arrives in September. It is water and shock resistant and comes in a magnesium-alloy case. The 80GB hard drive is removable for security, and fingerprint and smart-card readers are optional. The series was designed to meet US military durability requirements
